Here at A Moment in Time we offer both types of sandblasted etching options for our mirrors.  Below they are defined as well as some customization options.  Pricing is dependent upon the size of the mirror and the details associated with the etch.

STANDARD FRONTAL ETCH – The front side of the mirror is taped off and a pattern or image is etched into the surface.  This creates a frosted pattern or image that is textured to the touch.  Since the etch is on the front of the mirror you will see a mirror image of the etch reflected off the silvering on the back of the mirror (the size of the mirror image depends on the depth of the mirror).  In some cases this adds to the effect of the etch and in others it is considered to be distracting.  If that is the case a reverse etch may be more appropriate. 

REVERSE ETCH – The mirror is flipped over and your pattern or image is etched on the back.  This eliminates the “mirror image effect” that comes with a frontal etch and the mirror remains smooth to the touch.  After the etch is complete the mirror can be re-silvered behind the etch, left clear in order for light to pass through, or colored.

COMBINATION – A combination of a standard and a reverse etch is an option also.  For example, a mirror may have scrollwork along the perimeter of the mirror that is done on the front while a reverse etch of an image is done in the center.  Any combination is possible.

COLORING – Any of our etches can be colored.  However the coloring on a standard frontal etch tends to fade, peel, and/or flake off over time while the coloring on a reverse etch is much more protected.  Regarding color choice it is often helpful to include any information or pictures of the theme so we can best match your color.  In others words, if we are matching the color of your granite counter top on your bar please send a photo.

PATTERNS – We have a library of patterns available including many Victorian patterns.  Another option is to send in your own photo.

PRICING - Pricing for etching is divided into two parts.  The first part is a base price of $35 per square foot.  The second portion of the price is dependant upon the pattern.  Custom artwork is approximately $60 per square foot.  Using our pre-done Victorian patterns will be cheaper.  How much cheaper depends upon the pattern used.  With all items please call to arrange a quote.
